Reproductive biology of the Argentine red shrimp and Argentine stiletto shrimp of Argentine marine waters.Abstract
This work is summarizes published and unpublished information on the reproductive biology of Argentine stiletto shrimp Artemesia longinaris (Penaeidae), Argentine red shrimp Pleoticus muelleri (Solenoceridae) and sergestid Peisos petrunkevitchi (Sergestidae) of Argentine marine waters. The gonadal developmental stages are characterized and, at specific level, larval and postlarval stages differentiated. The estimated size and age at morphological and physiological sexual maturity are indicated and spermatozoids and spermatophores characterized. The life cycle of each species is schematized and the role the macroalgae community plays as nursery ground for Argentine stiletto shrimp A. longinaris in front of the Province of Buenos Aires (Argentine Sea).
