Evaluation and development of the introduction of Sea Bream (Sparus aurata) and Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) culture in the Cuban shelf zonesAbstract
The selection of Cuban shelf zones with the appropriate environmental conditions for the mariculture development of foreign species in net cages is a strategy that is carrying out for the Ministry of the Fishing Industry since 1996. So far they have been selected and authorized four areas at the Cuban shelf to develop this activity in the country, such they are Cabañas Bay, Cabo Cruz and Niquero, to Sea Bream (Sparus aurata) culture, and Arroyos de Mantua to Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) culture. These species are considered of high commercial value in European countries, fundamentally at the Mediterranean area, and their culture and commercialization constitute a source of revenues to the country. In this work, the study results during one year in the four areas mentioned are exposed, with the objective to evaluate and to compare the environmental of the same ones during the culture stages and the possible causes that could affect the good growth and development of these species. According to the quality parameters data obtained, the Sea Bream and Sea Bass culture areas, until the moment of having concluded the study, doesn't present affectations derived of this activity development. These and other results are discussed in this work, as well as the necessary recommendations to development of mariculture activity in a future.
