Pink shrimp females (Farfantepenaeus notialis, Pérez-Farfante & Kensley, 1967) size at first capture and maturation in the Gulf of Guacanayabo, Cuba.Abstract
It was estimated the size at first capture (L 50 ), the selection range (L 25 and L 75 ) and the size at first maturity from size classes of pink shrimp (Farfantepenaeus notialis) females. It was used the data for January, February, May, August and September 2011 survey cruises in the fishing zone of Manzanillo Industrial Fisheries Enterprise (EPIGRAN) in the Guacanayabo Gulf. The size at first capture (L 50 ) and selection range (L 25 –L 75 ) were L 50 = 8,5 and 2,9 cm respectively. Mature females of smaller size measured 6,2 cm and the size at first maturity (L m50% ) went 9,1 cm of length. The maximum maturity was observed on May. The average size of the females in the Zone I (8,4 cm) showed significant differences with 95 % of confidence with the zones II (9,2 cm) and III (9,6 cm). It was not observed significant differences between Zones II and III. The overlapping curves of the first maturity size and first screenshot showed a fishing pressure on 62 % of females in stages prior to sexual maturity.
