Currently Marine Protected Areas are implemented in the South West of Madagascar. Several studies were and will be carried out for that. In spite of this, Madagascar, like any developing country is confronted with various problematic for the introduction of such innovation. Among which, the insufficiency of data and the lack of participation of the local population are the main ones. This minimizes the credibility and the benefits of the management policies which will be implemented. The present study proposes a methodological approach allowing to solve part of this problematic by trying to identify and integrate the traditional ecological knowledge of the fishermen. It was applied to the Large Reef of Toliara, where some reef fish species were taken as subject of study.
