Glass eels penetrate the Tunis Lake brought by the currents, either isolated or in small groups of 3, 4 or 5 and took refuge in the mud or in the vegetation. They never leave the area until the time when, sexually mature, they will attempt to migrate to spawning grounds. One should note that if there is of a passage of yellow eels in the lake, it is really of small amounts.

The purpose of this paper is to report the presence, twice recorded in the Mediterranean, of a decapods crustacean species so far considered as essentially Atlantic, remanding first the principal regions where Polybius was reported. This pelagic crustacean, mixed to sardines bench, was reported until 1933 on Atlantic coasts to Tarifa in the Gibraltar entry without a clear presence in Mediterranean. This document dating from 1949 describes the encounter of this kind twice in the Western Mediterranean, in the north of Tunisia respectively: La Galite and Cape Bon coast. Heldt provides also a brief description of size and shape of male and female collected and confirm that the area of habitat of the species extends to the Mediterranean area to the meridian of the Cape Bon.

The document deals with survey led on 183 eels caught in the Lake Ichkeul including 94 males and 83 females. There were 178 small eels of 30-66 cm in length and of 44-496 g in weight and 5 large silver females measuring 78-103 cm with a weight of 750-2 500 g, thus demonstrates that the eel from Lake Ichkeul can reach considerable size and weight.
Of the 178 individuals there were 167 silver eels and 11 yellow eels.
Of the 167 silver eels, there were 93 males (37-43 cm and 44-123 g) and 76 females (42-66 cm and 105-496 g).
