Отчет составлен заведующим на основании данных, сообщенных отдельными сотрудниками: путинных отчетов пунктовых наблюдателей и предварительных сводок обработанных материалов, за исключением части, касающейся работ химического отделения, написанной ассистентом Н. Ф. Невтоновым.; The Ichtyological Laboratory in Kerch is working on investigation of the Ichtyofauna of the Asov and Black Seas Basin, studying the biology of commercial fishes and that of other sea organisms more or less connected with their life. In order to find out laws, determining the conditions of fishes and other sea animals life, the Laboratory is doing general biological observations based upon the study of hydrological and metheorological elements. The laboratory is studying the organization and techniques of fishing, ways of preparing fish and is doing experiments in order to improve the ways of getting fish products cf the highest guality. The study of economical interrelations of different groups, involved in the fishing trade, analysis of the economical situation of some of them and the estimating of all the elements of fishing trade are also a part of the Laboratory Investigation program. According to the three mentioned problems the Laboratory is subdivided into three sections: 1) biological section, 2) chemical and technological section and, 3) statistical and economical section. Practical works of the biological section are done on stationary observing points at the places of fishing, and also by means of excursions, with the aid of a sail-motor boat „Toonets". The studying of the obtained material is centred in Kerch. The Laboratory, founded three years ago, has equipment far from satisfactory in meeting all demands, yet it is adapted for solving a great cycle of problems called for by the fishing. Beside the necessary equipment for biological works there is a special chemical section; the library contains over 3600 volumes on practical ichtyology, hydrology, hydrobiology, technology, economics and the like; a museum of fishery is being constructed. The activity of the Laboratory spreads over the strait of Kerch (strait of Yenikale), the mouth of Kuban River and the South part of the Asov Sea. In the nearest future the Laboratory intends to widen its activity and spread it over all the basin of Asov Sea and the North-East part of the Black Sea. The personnel of the Laboratory consisted in 1924 of a specialist in
Ichtyology as chief, of two assistants, one chief statistical worker, one minor statistical worker, 7 observers, 3 men of the boat's crew and two workmen. The technical and chemical section has made work during one year over analysis of salt from lakes of the Kerch district (pages 35—37) estimated
the disbursements of materials and the issuing of finished products of salted anchovies, herrings and sandres (pages 38—41) and has endeavoured to determine the quantity of eatable parts in fishes of different fishes (pages 42—44). The statistical and economical section was Involved in estimating the
yearly fishing, in investigating the professionnal staff of fishing corporations the earning of different groups of fishermen; they made a first experience of studying the economical conditions on the basis of budgetary control (pages 51—57). The Ichtyological and hydrological works of the Laboratory of Kerch were led in correlation and in contact with the Black and Asov Sea Scientific Fishing Trade Expedition, working under the command of prof. Knipovitsh.
