Alternative Title
Evaluation of moringa flour (Moringa oleifera Lam) in Clarias gariepinus.
Abstract
A total of 225 Clarias gariepinus juveniles of 25,2 +- 0,09 g average weight were randomly distributed according to a completely randomized design in three triplicate treatments to evaluate the moringa forage meal (Moringa olifeira Lam, var Supergenius), as a partial substitute of fish and corn meal in commercial food used in the farming of these fishes. The treatments were one control (commercial food) and two diets with 12,5 % and 25,0 % of inclusion of the experimental ingredient. Differences were found (p +- 0,001) in food consumptions (45,27; 37,53; 36,9 g/fish) and crude protein consumptions (13,4 g/pez, 10,84 g/pez, 10,32 g/fish), which were higher for the control. Indicators of growth (final weights 100,4 g, 75,4 g and 61,7 g), and food conversion (2,65; 3,22 and 4,03), were affected (p +- 0,001) by increasing levels of moringa meal (MM) in diet, due to high crude fiber contents and probable antinutrients factors. The levels of MM evaluated were not promoters of mortalities. It was concluded that 12,5 % and 25,0 % of moringa forage meal decreased the productive indicators in Clarias gariepinus.
