Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in superficial sediments of the coastal zone of Campechuela – Niquero, Cuba.Abstract
The coastal area under study belongs to the southeastern region of the Gulf of Guacanayabo, Cuba, although not shown a great industrial activity; if you have several coastal towns of relative importance, two sugar plants; and small industries as those dedicated to fishing, using motor boats of small and medium size. The importance of the coastal marine area of this region, is valued in the ecosystem functions that form, beaches, mangroves, rocky shores, where different marine species and act as nursery grounds for shrimp, lobster and other fisheries resources. This paper presents the results obtained in the determination of total concentration Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface sediments of the coastal zone Campechuela – Niquero, southwest of the province of Granma. The results obtained in surface sediments of this region, reported an average concentration of 0,124 μg g-1. According to the results, the surface sediments of this coastal area can be considered unpolluted respects to total concentration of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons.
