The sturgeon stocks of the Caspian Sea have been dramatically diminished due to the human activities, which have affected their natural habitat. This report discusses the causes of this problem supported by different physiological, biological and ecological studies as well as stock assessment analyses, mostly carried out in the northern part of the Caspian Sea. The major part of the data in this review have been obtained from a paper presented by A.D. Vlasenko at the International Conference on Sturgeon Biodiversity and Conservation, New York (July 28 - 30, 1994).Journal
