Abstract
In a Study on catches of small pelagic fishes by common beach seine net and purse seiner boats in Jask coastal waters, five sardine species (Sardinella sindensis, S. albella, S. longiceps, S. gibbosa and Dussumieria acuta) were identified. The catch percentages of sardine were 83.8% for purse seine and 87/4% for beach seine fishing methods, from which S. sindensis formed 87/8% and 92/7% of the purse seine and beach seine catches respectively. Mean catch per unit efforts were estimated 299 and 656 kg/shooting for purse seine and beach seine net respectively. Purse seine CPUE was significantly different seasonally (P<0.05). The results from pure seine catches showed that breeding period was during April-May for S. sindensis and may-June for S. albella. Sex ratio of these two species were not significantly different from (1:1) ratio (P>0.05). Fecundity and length-weight relationship for 4 Sardinella species and Lm50 for S. sindensis were calculated. Growth parameters (K and L∞) were 1.9 yr -1 & 19.95 cm for S. sindensis and 1.1 yr-1 & 15.75 cm for S. albella. Mortality rates (Z, M & F) and exploitation rate (E) were obtained 7.77 yr-1, 2.94 yr-1, 4.83 yr-1, 0.62 in S. sindensis and 4.88 yr-1, 2.2 yr-1, 2.68 yr-1, 0.55 in S. albella respectively. Pearson index showed between purse seine net sardine CPUE and beach seine net sardine CPUE with physical and chemical parameters (pH, salinity, temperature, chlorophyll a , No2- , No3- and Po4- ) were not significantly corellation(P>0.05).
