Alternative Title
Study of the wave spectra in the Caribbean observed with buoys and its representation on the JONSWAP spectra
Abstract
Using information of two directional wave buoys deployed in the Caribbean nearby Barranquilla and Providencia Island in Colombia, the wave frequency spectrum behavior from march 2006 to august 2007 was studied. Using iterative techniques the values of constants of the JONSWAP spectrum that best reproduced the mean monthly spectrum were investigated, looking for the RMS values between the two spectra. It was found that on all occasions, the Wind Sea and Swell could be easily differentiated due to their Periodo Also, the Swell is an unusual event on the Caribbean. An important spatial and temporal variation on the wave behavior in the Caribbean was observed. The values of the constants that satisfactorily reproduced the monthly wave spectra measured with buoys were found, however, because, of the standard deviation found, to continue the study of the values as long as more information becomes available is advisable.
