Airborne Laser Hydrography (ALH) enables us to sound wide areas such as shallow waters and coral areas in a short time. Japan Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department (JHOD) had performed the ALH by a Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) system “Scanning Hydrographic Operational Airborne Laser Survey (SHOALS)” since 2003. A new LIDAR system “Coastal Zone Mapping and Imaging Lidar (CZMIL)” was introduced and its operation was started in June, 2014. In this article, I report an overview of the new LIDAR system.Journal
