The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake, that occurred on March 11, 2011 caused huge crustal movement off the Pacific coast of northeastern Japan. The Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department of Japan (JHOD) detected co-seismic displacements associated with the earthquake by GPS/acoustic seafloor geodetic observation, GPS and SLR measurements. In particular, at the seafloor reference point just above the hypocenter, a huge displacement of about 24m toward east-southeast was detected by the seafloor geodetic observation. The JHOD reported these observation results at governmental committees and pressed out them to public.Journal
