Bathymetric data are essential for safety navigations and earth scientific researches. As the international standards for bathymetric survey (IHO S 445 ed.) was revised in 2008, we had needed to evaluate qualities and uncertainties of bathymetric data. We therefore have carried out a priori and a posteriori estimation for uncertainties of bathymetric data. A priori estimation has revealed that our multibeam echo sounders satisfy the IHO–S 44 special order or order1a. A posteriori examination has showed the accuracies of the bathymetric data obtained by the current survey system including multi!beam echo sounders, navigation systems, motion sensors, etc. have adequate performance to meet the IHO–S 44 special order or order1a. We also have classified the bathymetric data based on vessel’s states and velocity corrections. Finally we designed the bathymetric data management system to deal with a large amount of bathymetric data.Journal
