An International Study of the Marine Biogeochemical Cycle of Trace Elements and Their Isotopes, which has been called as GEOTRACES, is an international oceanographic research project adopted by the Scientific Committee of Ocean Research (SCOR) in 2005. The project is now entering a field research phase. In Japan, it is urgent to establish a data management mechanism in order to exchange and share data and information effectively and efficiently not only within Japan but also with other countries. Under such circumstances, Japan Oceanographic Data Center was requested to participate as GEOTRAVES Data Management Office in Japan to take that responsibility, considering its capacity and experiences. In this report, data management of GEOTRACES and expected role of JODC in the project are introduced.Journal
