Abstract
In this article, research results concerning facilitation of removal of organochlorine pesticides (OCP) and heavy metals (HM) from the Russian sturgeon juveniles (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii Brandt et Ratzeburg, 1833), using activated carbon (AC) added to their feed, are presented. It has been found out that, along with removal of these toxic agents, addition of AC to the feed prevented the development of toxicant-induced disease. Based on the study, AC is recommended for use in fish feed for the purpose of OCP and HM removal from organs and tissues of the juveniles of sturgeons and other fish species, and from the organs and tissues of adult individuals belonging to small-sized fish species.
