The present work was done accordingly with the need of the Colombian Government toregulate the 1973 International Convention on the Prevention and Control of Pollution from Ships and its 1978 Protocol, "MARPOL 73/ 78", aproved by the country trough the law 12 of 1981. In addition, the Dirección General Marítima (DhliAR), the Colombian maritime authoray, is responsible for the application of "MARPOL 73/78", and other international conventions as stablished by the decreto 2324 of 1984. During 1992, phase I was accomplished in the Cartagena de Indias Port (Garay, 1993), while in 1993 the phase II covered the ports ofBarran quilla and Santa Marta whose results are presented in the article. These pots, constituted by 43 piers of terminals, of which, two partially hcrve inland facilities to receive liquid or solids wastes, and other four hire collecting services.El presente trabajo se realizó por la necesidad que tiene Colombia de reglamentar el Convenio Internacional de 1973 para Prevenir la Contaminación por Buques y su Protocolo de 1978, “MARPOL 73/78”, aprobado por el país mediante Ley 12 de 1981. Asimismo, la Dirección General Marítima (DIMAR), de acuerdo con lo prescrito por el Decreto 2324/84, es la garante de la adecuada aplicación en Colombia de los convenios marítimos, a los cuales se adhiere suscribe la Nación. Entre ellos el MARPOL 73/78. Durante 1992 se llevó a cabo la Fase I, en el puerto de Cartagena de Indias (Garay, 1993). Mientras que en 1993 se realizó la Fase II, en los puertos de Barranquilla y Santa Marta, que corresponde al presente artículo. Dichos puertos poseen parcialmente, infraestructura en tierra para recepción de desechos líquidos y basuras, y 4 más contratan servicios.
