Abstract
The results of a research program on marine pollution by hydrocarbons in Colombian Paci.ftc Ocean, are shown and evaluated corresponding to the analysis of sediment, water and bivalves samples, taken in April, August and December, 1992, and two sediment and bivalves samples taken in 1993 at "hot spots". The stations were selected based on registred values observed in former works carried out by CCCP at the bays of Tumaco, Guapi, Gorgona lsland, Buenaventura Bay, Malaga Bay, Solano Bay and Cupica Bay belonging to the IV region, 1,2, and 3 zones as stipulated by the "Plan de Desarrollo de Ciencias y Tecnologías del Mar en Colombia, 1990-2000" The results clearly show how the oíl handling and storage are signi.ficatively increasing the oil concentration in coastal ecosystems. On the arder hand, the fact that aromatic hydrocarbons have been detected both in water, sediments and organisms, accounts for the concem about a worrying marine environment problem.
