Abstracts : This paper describes, using data gathered at CNROP, the evolution of main parameters of cephalopod fishery from 1990 to 1992. These parameters include catch, fishiçn effort indices (fishing days, licences) and yield as welle as average physical characteristics of fishing vessels (length, power and dispalacement). Total landing has shown an remarkable increase in 1992 reaching 42000 metric tons. This situation can be explained by the important abundance of octopuses. In contrast, fis yield decreased over the study period, especially for ices boats. Fishing effort (fishing days) dropped progressively for freezing ships while for the ships that carry ice effort has almost doubled from 1990 to 1991. The two well known types of conservation in the fishery (ice carrying ships and freezers) still exist. However, the separation, whereby ices deal mainly with fresh fishes and less chepalopods, does not seem to hold anymore. In fact, over the study period, this fishery is characterized by the expansion of number of units with Chines crew and by the increase of the proportion of octopuses in the total catch of the ices’carrying ships.
