Fishing gear on the coast of EcuadorAbstract
The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics, dimensions, materials used in the fishing gear and boats currently used by the artisanal fisheries along the ecuadorian coast. Three provinces were visited (Guayas, Manabí and Esmeraldas), in which the artisanal ports with the greatest fishing effort and landings along the coast are registered. Interviews with the fishermen, identification of the fishing gear and certain measurements were taken to obtain the information on the desing, dimensions and materials used in the fishing gear as well as the techniques and principal fishing zones. Aditionally the diversity of the fishing boats was noted varying from small sailing rafts to the fast-glass boats with outboard engines.Journal
