Contaminación en el estuario del río Baracoa. La Habana. Cuba

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza la calidad ambiental del estuario del río Baracoa, a partir de variables físico-químicas (oxígeno disuelto, demanda bioquímica de oxígeno y demanda química de oxígeno, compuestos del ciclo del nitrógeno, fósforo inorgánico y total) y microbiológicas (concentraciones de coliformes totales, fecales y estreptococos fecales). Los muestreos fueron realizados en febrero de 2006 y en mayo y octubre de 2007. La distribución espacial de las mediciones de los parámetros físicos y químicos sugiere que el estuario es dominado por condiciones marinas. El análisis de la salinidad y la temperatura, así como el comportamiento no conservativo de los nutrientes muestran que, en corriente, las características del estuario pudieran estar influenciadas por la contribución de la cuenca y el escurrimiento de las precipitaciones. Habitualmente, concentraciones de los parámetros medidos en el estuario del río Baracoa, sugieren que esta área está muy impactada por las actividades antropogénicas en la cuenca del río, esto lo muestra los bajos valores de oxígeno disueltos encontrados, así como el déficit de oxígeno, el cual tuvo un promedio de –1,6 mg/L. Las acciones antropogénicas en este estuario están principalmente relacionadas con la emisión de los actividades domésticas y agrícolas, sistemas de tratamiento. Esto es asociado a los valores observados de las concentraciones de coliformes fecales y totales, de 240-1 100 NMP/100 mL, caracterizando el estuario como de calidad mala o dudosa, se recomienda realizar nuevas campañas para realizar muestreos sistemáticos para caracterizar climatológicamente el estuario del río Baracoa.

The environmental quality of the Baracoa river estuary was studied from the physic (temperature and salinity), chemic variables (dissolved oxygen, oxygen biochemical demand (DBO), oxygen chemical demand (DQO), nitrogen cycle, inorganic phosphorus and total phosphorus) and the microbiological variables (total and faecal coliforms and faecal streptococci). The samplings were made on February 1 2006 and May and October 2007. Spatial distribution of the physical and chemical parameters measured suggests that the estuary is dominated by the marine conditions. The salinity and temperature analysis shows that in general the characteristics of the estuary could be influenced by the contribution of the river basin draining through rains. In general, the concentrations of the measured parameters in the Baracoa river estuary, strongly suggest that this area is hitting by the human activities on the river basin, due to the low levels of oxygen dissolved and an oxygen average deficit of –1,6 mg/L. Anthropogenic actions in this estuary are mainly related to the emission of domestic and farming remainders without the suitable treatment. This is visibly associate to the observed values of the faecal and total coliforms concentrations, they 240-1 100 NMP/100 mL, that were surpassed reference values from the cuban norm for water quality, characterizing itself like bad or doubtful quality. Pointing out negatively measurements made next to the communication channel the estuary and the El Doctor lagoon; it will be necessary new campaigns of systematic samplings to characterize the Baracoa River estuary climatologically.
