Abstract
During the southern summer of 1988, the First Ecuadorian Antarctic Scientific Expedition was carried out on board R/V ORION in Bransfield Strait. A detail investigation was conducted with a total 23 oceanographic stations.Temperature, salinity and other chemical and biological parameters were obtained from superficial waters to depths down to 500 meters in 23 oceanographic station. This paper presents a description of the oceanographic conditions, as well as, the thermohaline structure of the strait. By using of the T-S diagrams, the waters masses in the region are also presented. From the analysis of the dynamic topography it can be seen that the circulation has a NE direction and in general, the conditions are similar to those observed during FIBEX in 1981. A raise of 0,4°C of temperature and 0,5 in salinity observed.
