Chlorophyll "a" and phaeopigments primary production as indicative of quality of phytoplankton, was measured with stations located at Bransfield Strait (E-14); Chile Bay, and Drake Passage, in VII Ecuadorian Expedition to the Antarctica was carried gut on aboard the B/I "ORION", during austral summer 1998. In Bransfield Strait, the surface biomass shown high concentrations (0.7-0.8 mg/m3) ward northeastern. The less producttivity <0.2 mg/m3 was located at the strait center. The subsurface level near to 20 m registered high concentrations between (0.100 m), with latitudinal distribution almost homogeneous. The valor decrease remanent toward the 50 m, 75 m and 100 m of depth, support increase toward the strait of the northeast, with a light exception about the 75 m. In relation to the concentration of phaeopigments, it were low generally, with lights increase in the proximity of the S Islands and toward the west of the strait a the 50 m column of water. outh Shetland Islands and toward the west of the strait a the 50 m column of water. In Chile Bay (Northeast of the Greenwich Island, South Shetland Islands), the concentration of chlorophyll "a" between 0.66-0.95 mg/m3 se located subsurface toward the entrance of the bay; and with a nucleus of high concentration in the E4 of 1.96 mg/m3 toward the center-west of the bay. To level subsurface (25 m), the concentrations of chlorophyll (0.91-1.29 mg/m3) were higher in subsurface. The concentrations of phaeopigments were shallow less than chlorophyll "a", with a nucleus subsurface (20 m) of 1.04 mg/m3 toward the internal part of the bay. In Drake Passage during to february/1998, the major concentration of chlorophyll "a" (0.657-1.7 mg/m3) and phaeopigments were registered at the south and north of the same, associates with the principals systems fronts (The Front Antarctic Polar and The Substropical Convergence); the minors concentrations were shown around of the two fronts. The phytoplankton biomass so chlorophyll "a" and paeopigments has registered shallow concentrations in the Bransfield Strait, Chile Bay and Drake passage, in relationship by El Sayed (1993).en
