Abstract
During the austral summer, the VII Antarctic Ecuadorian Expedition was carried out on board the Bae/Orion, belonging to the Ecuadorian Army. Between january and february 1998. In Guayaquil Cove and Chile Bay (Greenwich Island) samples of macrozooplankton were collected and analized by superficial trawls by means of simple conic type nets, in order to know the distribution and composition off zooplankton. Salpas were the most representative organisms with 46%, in second place copepods 17% and quetognats 15% in the Guayaquil Cove were the highest zooplanktonic heterogenety was presented too, showing the highest distribution to the east, next to Dee Island. In Chile Bay, the diversity was relatively low, where isopods were the most abundant with 76% in the zone, salpas were in second place with 15%, the highest distribution was shown in the outer part of the Bay, toward the Strait English. temperature and salinity in addition to the superficial sea circulation, influencing directly on the distribution and presence of some zooplanktonic groups. Guayaquil Cove show different physical, chemical and biological characteristics to those observed in Chile Bay.
