De las siete especies de tortugas marinas del mundo, cinco habitan en aguas territoriales de Cuba. Existen seis especies conocidas de la región del Caribe (Tabla A1.1). Algunas anidan y se alimentan regularmente en aguas cubanas (Chelonia mydas, Caretta caretta y Eretmochelys imbricata), mientras que otras se encuentran rara vez (Dermochelys coriacea y Lepidochelys olivacea) (Tabla A1.1).Of the seven species of world sea turtles, five inhabit Cuban territorial waters. There are six species known from the Carribean region (Table A1.1). Some nest and feed regularly in Cuban waters (Chelonia mydas, Caretta caretta y Eretmochelys imbricata), whereas others are encountered rarely (Dermochelys coriacea y Lepidochelys olivacea) (Tabla A1.1).
