Alternative Title
Assessment of fresh fish wastes and silages in the feeding of Clarias gariepinus x Clarias macrocephalus hybrids
Abstract
Fish offal waste and silage (by acidification and lactic fermentation), as a unique source of animal protein in half moist diets for Clarias gariepinus x Clarias macrocephalus hybrids (4,53 + 0,05 g initial middle weight) was assessed. These diets were compared with a balanced commercial food (20 % fish offal meal) during 60 days. The results showed that the best growth indicators and protein utilization were obtained by fresh wastes, which were significantly differed (p < 0,05) from silage and fish meal. However, the food conversion (dry base) and survival rate (>85 %) were similar between the diets. Silage and fish meal did not significantly differed (p > 0,05) in the evaluated indicators; Therefore, this represents an alternative for aquaculture food production in developing countries.
