Salinity variability and their relationship with size distribution of mangrove’s oyster in Villa Clara, CubaAbstract
α αFrom background information and samples made in 2006 and 2008, increases of salinity in waters north of the province of Villa Clara, Cuba, were determined. Comparisons between salinity and the size of oysters (Crassostrea rhizophorae, Guilding 1828) in the Sagua la Grande Bay were performed. There was significant difference in salinity between stations and the mean size of oysters by sampling sites (ANOVA, p < 0,05). Statistically significant inverse relationships between salinity and the mean size of the oysters were presented: in February 2006, R2 = 0,91, < 0,05 and in January 2008, R2 = 0,94, < 0,05. The horizontal distribution of salinity, affects the size class structure of oysters, the larger sizes occur at sites of lower salinity.
