Alternative Title
A proposal of a new methodology to differentiateYersinia ruckeri strains from Hafnia alvei strains
Abstract
The aim of this study was to check out the identification of two possible Yersinia ruckeri strains isolated from two different epizootics occurred during 2009 in tilapia developed in cages and diagnosed like bacterial septicemia, in orderto explain his role in the illness, since the typical clinical signs of Yersiniosis were not present in the affected animals. A great range of biochemical test battery was made. Motility, Simons´s Citrate and Voges Proskauer tests was made by duplicate and incubated at 25 °C and 37 °C. These result allowed strains identification as Hafnia alvei, that it´s not a recognized aquatic organisms pathogen. A simple biochemical strategy to differentiate Yersinia ruckeri strains from Hafnia alvei is proposed.
