Growth of wild post-larvae of the mullet Mugil liza Valenciennes in fish pens built in the costal lagoon El Ciego, at Tunas de Zaza, CubaAbstract
The results of wild mullet Mugil liza post-larval growth are presented, using 0.1 ha fish pens in El Ciego coastal lagoon at Tunas de Zaza, Cuba. The relative growth rate in TL and BW, as well as their condition factor were significantly different (P < 0.05) between fish pens. In conclusion, wild mullet post-larvae could be reared in fish pens in coastal lagoons up to a size which allow their grow out, reaching growth rates of ≈ 6 g/day in one year or less of culture. ing in the fish pens, the post-larvae were transferred directly to fresh water to segregate alive those of the mullet from the others mullet species, and their total length (TL) and their body weight (BW) determined. One thousand post-larvae (23.5 mm of TL and 0.23 g of BW) were introduced in each fish pen. Post-larvae fed on bottom detritus and once every day fish meal enriched with 2% of cod liver oil was supplied. After rearing for 90 days, survival was
