Alternative Title
Soft shell production and their incidence on the sustainability of biodiversity conservation in northern coast of Villa Clara.
Abstract
In the past years, commercial fisheries of swimming crabs resources has had a significan fallen. According to the Project for protecting the marine and coastal biodiversity of Sabana- Camagüey Ecosystem, a new exploiting way of sofft crab production is fomented. Soft crab production will be an important employment and foreign currencies sources and mainly, a viable alternative of sustainable fisheries. This study shows exploratory fishing results of swimming crab during the last two years in the northern of Villa Clara province, as well as statistical information of the global captures since 1981 and its tendencies that sustain the necessity of undertake important actions directed to achieve a biodiversity sustainable as a principal element in the Integrated Coastal Management in that region.
