Alternative Title
Sustainable use of fishing wastewater from microalgae cultivation. Study case EPIGRAN.
Abstract
This work was carried out in Manzanillo municipality, Granma province, with the support of Manzanillo Fishing Industry. The objective of the research was to propose a treatment system capable of reducing the contaminating potential of wastewater from the EPIGRAN Company with the use of the microalgae Chlorella sp. For this, the high‐speed lagoons were approached, evaluated in advance by fishing specialists. In this way, the sustainable use of wastewater will be promoted, since high value‐added by‐products will be obtained for animal feed, the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The clarified water will have a maximum BOD5 of 50 mg/L and 4.5 kg/m3 of wet algal biomass will be obtained (1.0 kg/m3 of dry biomass).
