In this study the Vis-breaking plant of Balila crude oil which is owned by Petro Energy Company was studied and the benefit in cost of this plant was calculated. The improvement in crude oil quality was tested. Besides investigating how Vis-breaking plant contributes in energy saving hence minimize its consumption. The flow characteristics of crude in pipeline were studied experimentally before and after Vis-breaking plant and described mathematically. Rheological models were developed to relate the shear stress to shear rate. These models were used to describe the effects of oil viscosity on the pressure required for pumping the oil through pipelines. The result of present study shows that the rheological characteristics of crude oil were improved from bulk Non- Newtonian to the Newtonian fluid at testing temperature, although the vis-breaking plant used as upstream unit, it has been never applied before.Collections
