During the Twenty-fifth Session of the IOC Executive Council (Paris, 10- 18 March 1992), China made an offer to "host and help organize a training course on marine information management and ASFA as an IOC-TEMA activity". IOC welcomed the offer and decided to hold such a training course. In response to this decision, the Training Course on Marine Information Management and ASFA was held in Tianjin, China from 19-30 October 1992. The course was organized and hosted by the National Marine Data and Information Service (NMDIS), Tianjin, China, under the co-sponsorship of IOC, the Department of International Co-operation of the State Science and Technology Commission, and the State Oceanic Administration of China. The main purpose of the training course was to provide the trainees with basic knowledge of marine information management, to train them in preparation of ASFA input, and to enable them to use modern techniques and facilities in marine information management.Pages
