The shrimp Caridina nilotica (Roux) is now the dominant prey for juvenile Lates niloticus (L.) in Lake Victoria, Kenya. Juveniles feed on zooplankton when 1-2 cm TL and switch to C. nilotica by 3 cm. Depth may affect diet, with fish in the shallows feeding on small fish, while in deeper waters they prey on C. nilotica. Further studies are underway into the predator/prey size relationship.Page Range
