Abstract
Analysis of the type of shoreline erosion and accretion sedimentary marine, distribution of sediments in the area of beach and formation of coastal platform of abrasion, have been performed in the coastal site of Pedernales, in the Province of Manabí, Ecuador. The waves, currents, tides and wind, gives rise to the formation of zones of accretion, although there are also areas of erosion. They are also notorious small tidal channels that run several tens of meters parallet to the beach. The study was complemented with photos that were taken of the geomorphological characteristics most outstanding of the coastal zone. The cliffs are low to relatively high, consisting of sedimentary rocks, such as shales, siltstones and conglomerates, weathered well. It also presents the results of the investigations carried out on surface sediments of fund, from the point of view of the texture and the statistical parameters. A total of 28 sediment samples of the seabed in the coastal zone of Pedernales were analyzed, the results of which will be determined a predominance of fine-grained sand, wrongly classified, and are located in a wide band, on the west side of the study area. It also highlights a mixture of silt and sand, located in a strip parallel to the coast line. The silt-clay comes from the undermining of the cliffs, as well as the drag caused by the rivers during the El Niño events.
