The fisheries sector plays an important role in the economy of Mozambique, contributing to 40-50 per cent of the country’s foreign exchange earnings. The extensive coast supporting diverse fisheries makes Mozambique a sensitive place for illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This paper discuss the relation between IUU fishing and the surveillance capacity, the length of the coastal zone, the commercial value of the resources and the national fishing capacity of Mozambique.Pages
