Abstract
El objetivo de este trabajo fue describir la variabilidad de los parámetros hidrológicos en la bahía de Cabañas, Cuba, con vista a la selección del sitio para el cultivo (engorde) de cobia (Rachycentron canadum)en jaulas flotantes. Se analizó la calidad del agua del acuatorio, a partir de dos campañas (marzo y julio), en el año 2011. Se tomaron muestras en dos niveles (superficie y fondo) para monitorear datos de temperatura del agua, salinidad, oxígeno disuelto, transparencia, turbidez y DBO 5 . Las concentraciones promedios de los indicadores hidrológicos analizados reflejaron intervalos óptimos según requerimientos de la especie. Los resultados muestran la influencia de la estacionalidad climática, tanto en la distribución espacial como vertical de los parámetros estudiados. La variabilidad hidrológica observada, permite elegir la bahía de Cabañas como un posible sitio de cultivo de cobia en jaulas flotantes, principalmente en áreas cercanas al canal de entrada de la bahía.
The aim of this study was to describe the variability of hydrological parameters in Cabañas′Bay, Cuba in order to site selection for culture (flattening) of cobia (Rachycentron canadum) in floating cages. The water quality was analyzed in the site in two campaigns in 2011: March and July. Samples were taken in two levels (surface and bottom) for monitoring water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, transparency, turbidity and BDO 5 . Mean concentrations of hydrological parameters showed optimum intervals for species requirements. Those results showed the influence of climatic season in all parameters, as well in spatial as vertical distribution. The observed hydrological variability allow to select Cabañas′Bay as a potential site for floating cage culture of cobia, mostly in areas nearby the entrance canal to the Bay.
